Introducing the Circular Household Model

Rising levels of resource consumption and waste generation underscore the urgent need to move from a linear to a circular economy. While circular economy strategies are often discussed at the level of cities, industries, or policies, the role of households remains less clearly understood. Yet many key decisions affecting resource use are made in everyday domestic life.

This whitepaper introduces the Circular Household Model (CHM), developed within the Interreg project Circ@Home. The model places households at the center of the circular economy and connects individual behavior with local infrastructures and service systems. By doing so, it offers a holistic perspective on how circular practices can be strengthened at the household level and integrated into broader urban and policy frameworks.
